Western Australia's premier trails social network

The 2010 Trails Conference was held at the Perth Zoo and a record 115 delegates attended. Highlights included a remarkable story from Dr Noel Nannup about the opportunity for trails to connect with indigenous people and heritage. He provided the example of the proposed Koomal Trail in the south west.

Nic Bowman from International Mountain Biking Association – Australia delivered a presentation on a range of wonderful trail achievements and innovations from across North America and the eastern states. One idea that stood out was building MTB trails under freeways to create an all-weather venue. Developers are planning residential sub divisions adjacent to trails. This is proving more popular than locating adjacent to golf courses.

There were nine sensational breakout sessions, not to mention the offers from people wanting to present but simply unable to fit into the program. This is a very exciting testiment to the maturity and growth of trails at all levels.

The last series of presenters included Gregg Moxham, President of Outdoors WA. Jim Sharpe (DEC) provided an inciteful look into the future. Tom Perrigo and Mike Wood described the work done in the proposal to create an independent high level trails body.

The conference finished with the National trust Trails Sundowner.

(91.4% of delegates rated the conference organisation as very good or excellent)
