The South West Club Has put a formal submission into DEC to legalise the Collie single track out on the Harris river Rd. Recently we rode around with DEC officials showing them the trails and discussed the pros and cons of the trails, being picky to try and weed out any potential problems with the track.
It was just after heavy rains, which showed up any potential erosion issues, Suprisingly there were very few problem areas.

The trails will be looked after and maintained by the Collie riders, led by Erik from Crankin Cylces and fully backed up by the South West Club. (if its approved) Great to see the local bike shop get involved and taking responsibility and putting in the effort for getting trails formaly legalised. I see it as leadership from comercial operators of putting their effort into trails advocacy as a good example of a good example.

The main issues DEC pulled out of the bag was parking and access, in case of emergency.
Main Access was an issue, as the original access road was on a bend and hill, creating a dangerous situation, after a good look around, we found an area of the side of the road, that with a bit of work could easily be converted to a parking and access road.

These trails have been come of age and are some of the best in the state for fun factor to ride.  Some fine tuning has taken place over the last 6 months creating good flow and improvement of sustainability.
Technical sections, rocky sections, log rides, log overs all with B lines for beginers to avoid anything they are not sure of. I forgot to mention the section of fully bermed corners, one after another which can be taken at speed without need for touching the brakes.

With plans to hold some xc racing, I can see this is going to be one of the best new tracks to race on in WA.

Fingers crossed for a happy result for the submission.

Have ridden this track several times,It is a fun xc track with a few climbs followed by some flowy decesents.
Sounds like an excellent project. Good luck with the submission.
It's great to hear that there's a local bike shop involved - do you know if he hires bikes - or is planning to? For people like me - who would like to go for the occasional ride with the family - (my son has a mountain bike, the rest of us have hybrids) - being able to hire bikes for the day would give us the opportunity to try it out. This is an issue in many places. Particularly if these trails are also going to be promoted to visitors. Wouldn't it be great if every town along the Munda Biddi could have hire bikes that could be ridden from town to town - with more technical trails like this along the way!
Not sure if he does any hiring.

Hi Jeremy, Now you've done it...my 10 yr old wants to go to Collie NOW to ride this trail..! I notice from your photos that you have a young one - where would you recommend near Perth to start learning?
cheers, Linda

Here is a link to some maps not to sure but i will ask around.
Erik will hire bikes, however it may pay to book well in advance so he can arrange it, as he races often.
He may also arrange someone to guide you around.

If you post up that you plan to ride, you may get the interest of others with kids out for a ride too.

Hucktoflat.com has a section where you can post up about a planned ride.
A lot of riders take their kids out and don't mind others tagging along.

The sky cleared for a day, enough for a road trip up the hill for a ride on Rays trail.
A midweek ride, left us having the trails all to ourselves.
We stopped at the beginning of the dead cat trail then rode over to Rays trail, taking our time to have a play and take a few pics.

The trail is wearing in well, with regular maintenance by the Collie riders. There are a few small changes from last time I was there, they were made for sake of sustainability.
This trail is just getting better and better with age, and the flow is.. well just getting better.

It was a ride with Deano and beaugiejuice. The day progressed with never ending ribbing and friendly sledging, finishing with a stop at Eriks shop to check out his latest project bike.

Glad to get back in one piece.

raised trails are always fun to ride. Couldn't help but ride the logs again and again and again.

Stopping at the switchbacks, we rode a zillion times, aiming for perfection.

Our aims were too high for this section.

Yes! A great fun day. Everyone should head down and have a go at these trails.
