The Granite Skywalk at Castle Rock in Porongurup National Park is now open.

Part of a $1million revamp of visitor facilities, the new lookouts offer views across undulating farmland to Albany in the south and to Mt Gardner and Mt Manypeaks to the south east.

Porongurup National Park is an ‘outlier' of karri forest, approximately 70km from the main karri belt between Manjimup and Denmark, making it one of the most distinctivegranite_skywalk_1.jpg parks in the State. It was placed on the National Heritage List in 2009 in recognition of its natural values and attracted more than 28,000 visits in 2009-10. It is a place of incredible biodiversity with 750 native plant species in an area of just 2600 hectares.

The nearby Castle Rock day-use site has picnic tables, barbecues, toilets and is accessible for people with disabilities.

Hikers should take plenty of food, water, wet-weather and warm clothing when walking, and notify someone else of their plans and expected time of return. Conditions can change rapidly and it is best to be prepared.
