Does anyone know of any health restrictions preventing you to do the Inca Trail in Peru?

I did the Inca Trail in 2004...seems so long ago now. I was very unfit and it was a struggle, but very doable...
Besides the norms, I am unaware of anything that would stop you. Altitude sickness (hypoxia) is an issue. Do spend time at altitude for a minimum of several days before attempting the walk. I spend three days there before hand and it still wasn't enough. I remember little of my first day on the trail. If I had more time, I could have gone to Lake Titicarca and other places in the Andes before starting. Acclimatisation is everything.
If you chose to go, book directly with a company that actually runs the hikes out of Cusco... every company around the world must use one of about 15 licensed companies in Peru to run the tours. You cut out many middle men and save thousands.

I would still recommend the company I went with and do had a lot to do with other people from other companies who also could not speak high enough of them.
Hope that helps a bit.

Hey Snoopy (Tina)! :)

Thanks for your reply!! I'll get back to you properly very soon.  Just about to go hiking (somewhere!) haha need to get out of the house.  It's raining too...which I've wanted to happen with at least one hike...with a different element involved.  yeah!

And yes every bit of info helps...:))

Cheers Tina
