Hi everyone,

I'm keen to get some hiking poles - but many are sooo expensive!  Anyone got any tips for a brand that's lightweight, telescopic, strong - and affordable??

cheers

hi Linda

yes they do take some getting used to. I think trekking poles hv their place in some terrain but are not so suited for other terrains...

I find they are great on well maintained tracks and trails, but once you're on broken ground ie river beds or morraine or when you've got some steep ascents etc, they can be more of a hindrance and sometimes downright dangerous...

That being said the Leki Makalus are great poles so enjoy them and enjoy your trip...
Did you end up getting any yet?
Hi Jeremy, Yes - I got a pair of Leki Makalu. Haven't had a chance to try them out yet though! Linda
Linda,

I'm not fond of trekking poles , I prefer a lightweight strong bamboo staff. However you can get cheap telescopic poles from an importer in The Fremantle Markets( He also does cheap LED lights. His stall is near the UGG boots stall). They look and feel just as good as all the expensive ones available

Thanks David. I've used a wooden stick for years - but as I'm going o/seas wanted something that could be packed easily. I've bought a pair now but will check out the markets next time in Freo - thanks for the tip!
cheers, Linda
Hi

Does anyone know where a walking pole can be repaired . I have one that will not collapse /telepscope other one oK . They came from overseas so cannot take to place of pruchase.
Deb,
Email the manufacturerand ask if they have an agent here who can carry out repairs.
If they do not then you will have to ship them back to the US for repairs. Are they covered by warranty?
