Permalink Reply by John Wallace on December 21, 2012 at 1:21pm Any chance to get a heads up on the GST registration of the organisation which is applying for the grant.
Its one of the main questions in the funding app.
Im begining to hear conflicting stories about how it affects the amount that can be applied for.
eg if the organisation is not GST registered then the max amount that can be given is $15k.
the other side, is that if the organisation only needs to be GST registered if it handles more than $60k-$80k through its books.
But if a large amount is applied for, then it automatically puts it in the higher backet.
For a lot of trail care groups\clubs and organisations, it does add an extra component to paperwork and red tape being registered for GST. These small groups are often the main drivers of trails and volunteers.
There are ways around it, by putting the funding app throug someone who is GST registered, but it can become costly and take control away from the primary group.
Cheers
