From L to R: Steve Bennett (DLGSC), Paul Neve (Three Chillies), Tim Swart (DLGSC), Claire Savage (Tourism WA), Kerstin Stender (DBCA), Linda Daniels (Trails WA), Simone Fountain (DLGSC Regional Manager), Emma Ramage (Minister for Sport and Recreation’s office)
The East Pilbara Trails Forum in early September provided a good insight for both presenters and attendees into the challenges and opportunities of trail development in the Pilbara region.
Topics ranged from destination development and promotion through to the eight stages of developing sustainable trails for both locals and visitors to the region.
Organised by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) in partnership with the Shire of Ashburton the forum attracted a wide range of community members and stakeholder groups including traditional owners, trail users, tourism operators, mining companies and local and state government representatives.
Current trails in the region include those in the spectacular Karijini National Park and Chichester Ranges.
Fun fact: Did you know there are two Disc Golf courses in the Pilbara? Never heard of it? Find out more here.
