Trails WA is looking for Board Members

Are you interested in trails in Western Australia?

Do you want to put something back into the trails’ community?

Can you volunteer time to help direct trails development in WA?

Then consider joining the Board of Trails WA.

BACKGROUND

Western Australia covers a third of the country and boasts 600+ trails attracting local, interstate, and international visitors (Covid travel permitting). Our trails cater to hikers, mountain bikers, horse riders, snorkellers, trail runners and more. They are diverse from the 1,000 km long Bibbulmun Track to family wildflower strolls, mountain bike tracks and regional town historic trails. Trails WA, formed in 2012, provides an important forum for all players in the trails area to work towards making WA the trails capital of Australia.

EXCITING FUTURE

These are exciting trail times in WA with new trails opening, trail towns and trail friendly businesses being identified, substantial trail funding and a very real increase in the number and type of trail users. Trails WA works across the broad range of organisations and people involved in trails. This includes local government authorities, government agencies such as the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, regional tourism organisations, trail user groups such as the Munda Biddi Trail Foundation, commercial tourism operators plus individuals in the trails community including through the active and growing Facebook community.

BOARD MEMBER REQUIREMENTS

An active volunteer Board directs the work of the organisation. So what is involved in being a Board member?

• Attend regular Board meetings, held every two months. Members meet in Kensington or join via an online hook up.
• Join a working party to assist in achieving the strategic plan of Trails WA. Working parties include IT, advocacy, and trails towns and meet in addition to regular Board meetings.
• Undertake other tasks as required to support the Executive Officer.
• Be able to represent the Board at meetings and events as required.
• Bring ideas and vision that will help put WA on the map as a trails destination.
• Advocate for support for Trails WA and assist with associate media as required.
• Contribute to the regular TrailTalk newsletter.

The Trails WA AGM will be held in November 2020 and the Board is keen to identify potential new Board members. What skills are we looking for?

• Enthusiasm and the time commitment to contribute to Board activities.
• A connection to and/or understanding of the trails environment whether as a user, commercial operator, through a work connection, regional representation, etc.
• Specialist skills to take on an executive position such as Treasurer for those with a financial background or Secretary for those with governance skills.
• Both regional and metropolitan representation is sought.
