It was on the list and the only one we didn't get to you..which was a shame as we had time.  I have since sent the folks that way in the caravan and all reports they loved Elachbutting!

Did you do Elachbutting rock? I camped there 2years ago and it rained all night and there were waterfalls coming down all over the place. We explored a few other rocks and collected a lot of geocaches out that way.

Granite Rock Gems

I just come back from the long weekend away checking out the granite rocks around Westonia.  DEC appear to have invested a lot of money in signage and putting together a fantastic map showing the network of granite rocks to explore.  The walk trails are well signposted and the signage excellent. We did around 800km to complete a…See More

John, many thanks for the explanations of the signs. The photo was taken at the Mill Brook junction of Lennard Drive. That makes sense now. Blach Diamond for "Difficult" Yes it certainly is and the squiggle through the centre would have to…

Getting a bit off topic, but here is another mtb trail sign. Wals trail is named after me. The line or squiggle going thru the middle is an indication that the trail could be easy or technical. Inside the arrow is a chain ring or sprocket of the…

OSM or Open Street Map is a map which anyone can add to or edit, a bit like Wiki. You can upload GPS tracks to it, and you can download the map into Garmin Mapping GPSs.  It's routable, which means you just have to tell it where you want…

Ok, I am game. What is OSM? My GPS does not take maps. It is a Geko 301 Personal Navigator.   Ralph

If you're looking around west of the Wellington Dam you might like to have a look at OSM map. It can be downloaded into Garmin GPSs.

Off-Track Walking

It is fantastic to be able to walk along designated trails like the Cape to Cape Track and the Bibbulmun Track. There is a certain element of security and reassurance knowing that a well marked trail lies ahead, plenty of help and options to bail out if it gets too hard and that the chances of getting lost are highly unlikely.

But where is the challenge in that? The thing I like about hiking is that you can put yourself in a position (of insecurity) that tests your courage and…

Just added some photos - in particular look at the roo prints!

Couldnt beleive this pic after I uploaded it. The leathery surface of the kangaroo's foot appears in the mud impression on the shore of Lake Clifton.

Any help to promote the site would be very welcome. We are developing a guide for groups (e.g. mountain bike and bushwalking clubs - or just groups of friends who hike together) to give them some idea of how they can use it to communicate with their members and to encourage them to upload their events and stories etc. It would be great to get a bit more activity happening. We are just about to commence a major online marketing campaign for the TopTrails site targetting interstate and international markets.
cheers, Linda
