Hi Roley
A good place to look for a decent hiking pack would be Mountain Designs in Hay Street, Perth. They have a good range and the staff are knowledgeable. The Bibbulmun Track Foundation is also located upstairs in the same building. Kathmandu, Paddy Pallin and Main Peak are also situated on the same strip within about a hundred metres of each other. Regarding your footwear it's really a personal choice, I prefer wearing boots as it gives extra support to the ankles over rough terrain.
Cheers Matt

I have a back pack but have just found out it's more a travelling backpack than a hiking specific pack. Where should I be looking for a new pack - any recommended brands etc?? Next question: Hiking shoes Vs Hiking boots? Have used both - have found hiking shoes more comfy but they don't seem to last too long!

Cheers

Hi Mark

Thanks for letting me in! I am a 47 year old recetly married public servant with a passion for hiking. I have Long Service Leave this year and I am committed to hiking the Bib Track starting in May of this year from Dwellingup to Albany. I have already completed Kalamunda to Dwellingup in bits and pieces and did the Milford Track (NZ) back in 1994. Really, I am quite a novice and your website seems like a great forum by which I can ask some dumb questions and hopefully find out plenty before my big trip.

Cheers
