I recently holidayed on Magnetic Island off the coast from Townsville in QLD. A network of walking tracks are a great way to enjoy some amazing scenery and appreciate the diversity of vegetation from one side of the island to the other. The vegetation varies from small pockets of  rainforest  to open eucalypt woodland. The walks vary from short and easy to longer with a moderate degree of difficulty. As the island is only about 10km at the widest point, the longest walk is only about 8km but can be linked up to other trails. Each of the walks rewards you with magnificent views of amazing bays and beaches.

I used to live in Townsville and loved going to Magnetic Island.  The walks are lovely - and so are the beaches.  The bonus being that in summer it was reasonably safe to swim off the Island - something you couldn't do on the mainland beaches due to all the stingers!
