As part of the WA Recovery Plan, The Great Southern Adventure Trails (GSAT) project has been allocated $16 million in funding over four years for trail development in the region.
The funding will go towards upgrading existing trails as well as building new trails in the Great Southern region, including Valley of the Giants, Walpole-Nornalup, Mount Frankland, William Bay, Torndirrup and Porongurup National Parks.
Trail consultants Common Ground have been engaged to develop a trail concept plan for the Valley of the Giants, and specific project funding includes $4.1 million for cycle, paddle and walk trails with associated infrastructure in Walpole, Nornalup and Valley of the Giants.
Development will follow industry best practice and accepted trail development processes, including the Western Australian Mountain Bike Management Guidelines (2019) and Trail Development Series (2020).
